how to connect an ati hd5870 to my psu correctly?
Ive just bought an xfx ati hd5870 and I’ve connected it to my pc. It says in the instructions that I should plug the two graphic card power slots directly into the psu using 2 “6 pin”connectors but it came with 2 “6 pin to 4 pin” adapters. I only had one 6 pin connector free so I plugged it directly into that and I’ve used the “6 pin to 4 pin” adapter to the plug the other slot into two 4 pin connectors. The card seems to be working fine but in the instructions Ive noticed it describes connecting the card to the psu using 4 pin adapters as a “bad power connection”. Is this true? does the way I’ve connected it affect the performance of the card? if so how do I go about connecting it directly to 6 pin connectors as I’ve only got one available?
I hope this makes sense, I’m not very good with computers so it might be a Little bit of a simplistic description.
Thanks in advance
Tom
Well I doubt that its that bad if they sent the adapters, or you could spend another 150-200 dollars and get a newer power supply and install the card with two true 6 pins, but if the card is working ok, and can handle all the video you need-games, or what ever you do, then just register the card for warranty if you haven’t already and ‘pute on my man. Oh and bty, if your Power supplies cord have multiple connectors on each strand(most due) try to use the 4 pin on a strand that has no other hardware attached if that is possible. (This is taking for granted you say 4 pin in exchange for moles, the flat 4 pin connectors)
